Baking is underrated. I feel that so many people believe it's something that only moms and grandmas do. Baking has a lot of wonderful benefits for emotional, physical and mental health. Here are some of them:
Baking helps you calm down
Baking requires focus. Have you heard of the saying that baking is a science? Unlike cooking that can be adjusted at any time, baking requires the exact amount of ingredients and exact techniques in every step for you to have good results. Concentrating on each step to make a beautiful cake means you don't have time to think about the other million things going through your mind. If you have too much on your mind, take a moment and bake something. Even if it's just an easy muffin or some delicious homemade bread, you can be sure to give your mind and body a break from all the stressors keeping you down. You might even be able to solve that problem you've been worrying about or look at things from a fresh perspective after you finish baking.
Baking can cheer you up
Baking is considered a hobby for a lot of people. Doing something you like naturally makes you happy. If you're feeling a bit down, try baking some colorful cupcakes. If you're frustrated or angry, bake some bread! Put all that energy into good use! All the kneading required in making bread will surely get the anger and frustration out of you.
Baking can also be therapeutic to patients with depression as baking stimulates cognition and allows a person to connect with a feeling of nurturing and protection. A lot of people find comfort and a sense of peace when they smell some freshly baked bread. I know I do. These comforting and nurturing feelings can help your mental well-being.
Baking unlocks all your senses
Baking appeals to all our five senses. When I think of baking, I immediately remember the smell of baking bread or my grandma's cakes baking in the oven. Smelling fruit cake brings me back to very happy memories of childhood Christmases when my grandfather was still alive. When we bake, we awaken all our senses - sight, smell, touch, sound and taste. When our senses our unlocked, our endorphins increase. That's our feel-good hormones.
Baking makes you more confident
A lot of people get scared of cooking and baking. But the reality is, these activities are quite easy. You just have to give it a go. Don't think about it. When you've finished baking, I'm sure you will feel a sense of accomplishment. This is especially true if it's your first time. I remember my first batch of brownies that everyone in my family loved. Taking pleasure and pride in something that your hands created will significantly boost your confidence. Already into baking? Why not take it to the next level and do that recipe you've been scared to try for the longest time?
Baking boosts your creativity
Need I say more? From decorating cakes, whipping up colorful icing for cupcakes, going crazy with the sprinkles, trying out different chocolate combinations - the ways to boost your creativity are endless with baking!
By being creative with baking, you will find yourself being creative in other areas of your life as well.

Baking can boost your performance at work
Did you know that baking can help you become a better problem solver? It also helps you be more patient (talk about waiting overnight for that dough to rise!) and allows you to become open to learning new skills. Aside from these benefits, you can also impress your colleagues with your creations!
